Advent Day 10

“The Mighty One has done great things for me…” Luke 2:49

Do you ever just want to break into song?  Perhaps a promise fulfilled makes you pour forth praise?  Mary certainly did.  One encouraging word from Elizabeth and her full heart overflowed.  Read Luke 2:46-55 then consider:

Like Mary, we are blessed for He has done great things for us.  You see, the God who has performed mighty deeds in the past performs them in the present, too.  Oh, we don’t always feel blessed, but God’s word says that in Christ we have been blessed with every spiritual blessing (Ephesians 1:3).  Romans 10:12-13 puts it this way:

“For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is the Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for ‘Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’”

What greater blessing could there be?  The Lord hears and answers, showing mercy again and again.  He is not far off; He dwells within us.  When we ask for wisdom, He provides it  (James 1:5).  When we confess our sins, he forgives them (1 John 1:9). When we “hunger and thirst for righteousness,” He fills us up (Matthew 5:6).  Just like Mary, we can say, “He has filled the hungry with good things.”  Let us be filled with His Spirit today!

Worship:  Read aloud Psalm 145.  Today, worship the Lord as Mary did.  Pour out your praise to him.  Tell of his marvelous deeds, the ones he’s done in your life.  Write your own psalm to him.  Thank Him for the ways He has met your needs, fulfilled your desires, and been faithful to you.

Family Focus: Make a wreath representing your praise to God.  Trace your hands on red and green paper then cut them out.  Write on each hand a way God has blessed you and your family, something you are thankful to Him.  Tape or glue them in a circle, making a beautiful wreath of worship.
