Wait Here Week 4 - Free Slaves
Series: Wait Here: When God's expectations do battle with ours
Key Passage: 1 Peter 2:16-
Speaker: Ben Taylor
Discuss a long journey you took, whether in a car, hiking, etc. What challenges did you face? What good things happened along the way?
Read 1 Peter 2:11-22. Respond: As Christians, we are all on a journey toward eternity with Jesus. Throughout life’s journey, the primary goal is to persuade others that Jesus is worth it; to invite people to join us on our journey.
Peter calls us ‘Aliens’ and ‘Strangers,’ meaning that this broken world is not our primary or ultimate residence. As Christians, what would it look like to get too attached to our current earthly residence? What would it look like to not be invested enough?
Fill in the blanks: This is what eternity with Jesus is going to be like: ____________________ . On my journey to forever with Jesus, here’s how I can bring a slice of eternity to my current residence: ______________________.
Respond: At times, Peter calls us to submit to people (like our governing authorities), not because they have ultimate power over us, but precisely because they don’t…because it’s a good advertisement for the Gospel.
Read 1 Peter 2:23-25. Respond: When Jesus was insulted, instead of seeking revenge, he ‘Entrusted himself to God, who judges justly.’ As Christians, how can this strengthen us during the difficult parts of our journey?
